Olive Oil Purity

Olive oil is used in a variety of cooking methods and has been shown to provide some health benefits. However, the chemical composition and purity of olive oil can also vary and depends on the supplier region and climate. Independent random samples of domestic regular olive oils were obtained and the peroxide value (in mEq O2/kg oil) was measured for each.

a. Conduct an analysis of variance test to show that there is evidence of an overall difference in population mean peroxide value. Use a = 0.01.

b. Construct the Tukey 99% confidence intervals to isolate the pairs of means contributing to the overall difference.

c. Draw a graph to represent the results of the multiple comparison procedure in part (b).

d. Based on these data, which olive oil appears to be the purest? Why?
