Compute the thermal efficiency and power output

Solar Turbines Mercury 50 Gas-Turbine power generator

Inlet air temperature:                300 K

Inlet air pressure:                     100 kPa atmospheric value

Inlet air mass flow rate:            17.9 kg/s

Pressure ratio:                          9.9

Fuel type:                                  Natural gas

Fuel heating value:                   43.3 MJ/m3

Fuel input rate:                         0.21 kg/s

A)Assume that the Mercury 50 operates on an ideal Brayton cycle (no regeneration), and that the working fluid is air with variable specific heat, determine i) the thermal efficiency, ii) power output.

B) Repeat the analysis for part A, but assume that compressor and turbine each have a second law efficiency of 86%.

C)Repeat the analysis for part B, but now consider the regenerator between the compressor and combustion chamber, and that the outlet temperature of the exhaust gases leaving the regenerator (vented to the atmosphere) is 377 °C.
