Compute the sample correlation coefficient and use this

Biology and Environmental Science

A recent study suggests that airplanes flying into and out of Australia and New Zealand create the most amount of aircraft pollution in the form of ozone.18 An area over the Pacific Ocean, about 1000 km to the east of the Solomon Islands, is very sensitive to aircraft emissions. A random sample of aircraft flying from Australia was obtained, and the amount of aircraft emissions (x, oxides, in kg) and the amount of ozone created (y, in kg) was measured for each.

a. Construct a scatter plot of these data. Describe the relationship.

b. Compute the sample correlation coefficient, and use this value to describe the linear relationship.

c. Find the estimated regression line. Conduct an F test for a significant regression.

d. Conduct the appropriate test to determine if there is any evidence that the coefficient β0 is different from 0. Do your results seem practical? Why or why not?
