Compute rate of heat transfer per unit wall area

The inside temperature of a furnace is 1300oC and outside wall temperature is 40oC. The furnace wall is made up of 23 cm chrome brick, 11.5 cm fire brick and 11.5 cm of masonry brick. The convective heat transfer coefficients at the inside and outside furnace walls are 56.8 W/m2 K and 5.7 W/m2 K respectively.

Compute the following:

1. Overall heat transfer coefficient

2. Rate of heat transfer per unit wall area

3. The surface temperature at each layer of brick

4. Is the temperature of the fire brick within the allowable limit of 1090oC.
