Compton effect (A.H. Compton; 1923)

An effect which demonstrates that photons (the quantum of electromagnetic radiation) contains momentum. At a stationary particle, a photon fired such as an electron, will impart momentum to the electron and, as its energy has been reduced, will experience a corresponding falling in frequency.
