Compose a 5-7 page essay that responds to one or more of the essays in Chapter 17 or 18 They Say/1 Say or one of the handouts from the syllabus (Cisneros, Staples or Junger). Reference Seagull Rhetorical Analysis 49 - 53).

o Use the MLA format that includes Title, Introduction, Thesis, Body Paragraphs that include 3-4 examples, and a conclusion. See Seagull (p. 161-169).

o Use a variety of transitions. See They Say/I Say (p. 776-7).

o Use strong, active verbs to introduce quotations and paraphrasing They Say/I Say (p. 39 40).

o Be sure to introduce your quotes, provide your quotes, and analyze your quotes. See Chapter 4 in They Say/I Say.

o Your analysis is to be 85% of the essay with your quotations that function as support for your original ideas comprising the remainder of the essay. Essays that are overwhelmed with source and informational material will not be accepted. See Seagull In Text Citations (p.122 - 129).

o Include a Works Cited Page See Seagull (p.129-160).

o Please use sources from the Writing Center Library database.
