Objective
Select the appropriate video switcher for a video surveillance system design.
Background
Video switcher is an important component of a video surveillance system, which selects a camera from a system of multiple cameras and connects it to a video destination, like, monitor, recorder and printer. Different types of switchers are available with different features, namely, small system, matrix, analog, virtual matrix, digital, and also with different modes, like, manual, homing, bridging and looping. Selection of video switcher type and mode is dependent on the application site, environment and security requirements.
Procedure
1. Consider that you are designing the video surveillance system for a high school with a large building of two floors.
2. Assume that the control room with monitors is located on the first floor of the building next to the Principal's office.
3. Determine how many cameras and what types you would select for the video surveillance system.
4. Describe the transmission system, environmental conditions and security requirements.
5. Choose the specific type of video switcher and its mode of operation. Justify your selection.
