The lost cause was Traditional Southern white society. They were defeated by the Union armies not through superior military skills also by over whelming force. The memorial associations such as the United Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Lost cause was taken by them. The wars that was taken place was the purpose of the lost cause.
One article was discussing the Irish in the South. Another article discussed the south but about the blacks and whites. The lost cause was confederacy and the way people was treated. The two articles were speaking on the same things one was just about a different group of people. The Lost Cause helped Southerners to cope with the social, political, and economic changes after the Civil War especially in the oppressive Reconstruction era.
