Compare the purpose of mitosis with meiosis.

Compare the purpose of mitosis with meiosis.

The outcome of mitosis is that the daughter cells end up with the similar number of chromosomes as the parent cell. This is attained by chromosome duplication followed by cell division. Consider a substitute, hypothetical process in which cells experience cell division first as well as then chromosomes get repeated in each daughter cell.

a. How would the results of mitosis differ between the two processes of cell division? Be exact.

b. Given the change you have given in (a) do you reason the hypothetical process would be equally real at maintaining chromosome number in daughter cells? Why or why not? Draw the actual as well as hypothetical alternative scenarios and compare and contrast. (Hint- what is the drive of mitosis? Does this new process efficiently satisfy that purpose?

c.Now envisage that this hypothetical process occurs in meiosis. How would the end products differ among the actual and hypothetical meiotic processes? Draw the actual as well as hypothetical processes and compare or contrast
