Compare process costing and activity-based costing

Discussion Post

• Compare/ Contrast Process Costing and Activity-Based Costing. When is each costing method appropriate?

• This is a practical application of your work in ACCT 321. There is no single right answer to this problem. Consider your processing method (job, cost, activity-which one you use is up to you), raw materials, labor, and overhead that could be causing the issue. Also consider giving your Company a name. If you have never seen an ugly holiday sweater, just run a web search.

You are the Controller (or Comptroller if you prefer) for one of five regional plants manufacturing ugly holiday sweaters (the kind they hold contests for), the uglier the better. Unfortunately, while your sweaters are ugly, they also cost more to make than the other four regional plants. How would you assess your manufacturing processes to determine why they cost more.

Consider how selling price and gross margin fit into the discussion. While the cost more, are your sales higher, and if so, why?

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
