Q1. Choose a current sitcom that you watch. Compare it to both the urban/"ethnic" sitcom and the suburban sitcoms from the 1950s. Does your current sitcom more closely resemble the urban/"ethnic" sitcom model, or the suburban sitcom model? Or is it a combination of both? Or does it not fit either one particularly closely? Explain your answer with clear descriptions and examples.
Q2. Find a recent TV episode, a clip, or a TV commercial that you think is aimed at your generation specifically. How is this piece of media attempting to appeal to "youth culture"? What tactics and/or messages does it use? Is it attempting to appeal to one specific segment of youth culture? What ideas do you think the creators of this text have about you, about youth culture in general, or about a specific segment of youth culture? What do they think is important to you? Are they right, or did they miss the mark?
