1. In what ways do you think your cultural background most affected your development?
L: Do I even have a cultural background? I mean I guess I do. Sort of. I don't know. My parents don't even have accents and I barely knew either of my grandparents. It's kind of hard to say it influenced my development when almost everyone else in Pittsburgh is pretty much the same. I mean I feel about as exotic as a slice of pizza. Maybe it would have been different if I was one of the more olive toned Southern Italians, but you know me I'm bone white and (L's younger sister who I'm also friends with) spends God knows how many hours tanning on her roof. So in the end of it maybe it affected me growing up because I never had to think twice about it or even once.
2. How is life similar from when you were a teenager as compared with life for teens today? Would you want to trade places with today's teenagers and live in the world they have grown up in rather than the way that you grew up? Why or why not?
L: Oh God it seems awful now I'm glad I was able to grow up when and where I did. We were stupid and probably could've killed ourselves by accident a thousand times but we didn't have a care in the world. Everything now is so competitive for kids. I had to break my back just to get my kids into a preschool here. I'm worried about how they're going to enjoy their teen years, but somehow they had a great time during the pandemic so I'm not too -too worried about them. Or should I be? I guess I'm more worried for their future in general than their teen years. Actually, now that I think about it I completely forgot about high school shootings and now I'm terrified.
