Assuming you are the network designer to design a network connecting USF Tampa campus and the St. Pete. campus, what are the media options you can think of?
These two campuses are about 30 miles apart. Our university doesn't own the properties between these two campuses. We have to assume the environment between the two campuses are full of noises. Prepare a MS Word document to answer the following questions.
Question 1: What are the media options if you want to build a self-owned network? What alternative options do you have if you want to lease services from a local service provider? Compare the costs, speeds, expandability/distance, environments, and security among these options. For the leasing options, you can Google for a local company who provides each of these services (such as microwave service, VSAT, WiMax, etc.) to find out their features and costs.
Question 2: Among all the above options, which one will you recommend if the inter-campus network will be used for students collaborations like email exchange, online chatting, Blackboard/Canvas communications, etc.? Which one will you recommend if it will be used to support interactive video class and video conferencing between these two campuses? Justify your choices.
