Cohort study: An investigation in which the group of individuals (or the cohort) is identi?ed and followed prospectively, possibly for many years, and their subsequent medical history is recorded. The cohort might be subdivided at the onset into the groups with different characteristics, for instance, exposed and not exposed to some risk factor, and at some later stage the comparison made of the incidence of the particular disease in each group.
