Mission Statements
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The American Cancer Society mission statement is the one I thought did the best job of articulating the company's mission. It provides a clear description of the scope and goal of the society. It is effective because the first section defines what the society is. It is nationwide and voluntary group of like minded people who are working to eliminate the cancer diseases. The statement then goes on to state what the specific goals are. The organization is focused on preventing cancer, reducing deaths from cancer, and easing the terrible pain of the disease. The final section states how they plan on achieving their goals through research, education, advocacy, and service. The thoroughness and explicitly stated goals make this one of the better mission statements from the assignment.
