chromiumchromium functions as a component of the

Chromium

Chromium functions as a component of the glucose tolerance factor, which serves to potentiate the action of insulin. Adding low concentrations (0.02 to 1.0 mg/kg) of chromium also increases immune response and growth rate in stressed animals. Limited research suggests that, in some situations, supplemental chromium may be needed. Studies with both humans and laboratory animals have shown organic chromium to be more bioavailable than inorganic chromium. The maximum tolerable concentration of trivalent chromium in the chloride form was estimated to be 1,000 mg Cr/kg diet. Chromium nutrition may be of value in meat producing animals for less fat and more muscle production.
