Part 1: Choose a state and identify the various sources of nutritional assistance, including federal food aid, state aid, school lunch programs, food banks, etc. Determine the amount of aid that would be available to your family. Assume minimal income and the maximum aid available.

Part 2: Determine the daily nutritional requirements for your family. Again, this depends on the ages, etc of the family members. Determine the requirements for each family member for each of the following elements:

  • Carbohydrate (complex carbohydrates and fiber)
  • Fats (total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol)
  • Vitamins A, C, and D
  • Sodium

Part 3: Create a 3-day menu that is nutritionally balanced for protein, carbohydrate (complex carbohydrates and fiber), fats (total fat, saturated fats, and cholesterol), vitamins A, C, and D, sodium and calcium, as listed in part 2. Make sure that you stay within the budget allocated for the nutritional assistance.
