After reading Do American Students Need More Time in School? in the text (Koonce, 2015), and What Happens to Summer Learning in Year-Round Schools (von Hippel, 2007), you and a group of classmates will do the following:
• Choose a stance and argue a position on what school reform is needed regarding the time of days, number of days, or calendar arrangement.
o Provide a clear claim that states what actions should be taken.
o Offer evidence from both sides of the arguments to identify counter arguments that result in refutation of the counter argument or a qualifier to your original claim.
Team selection: The first letter of your last name will determine your team. If your last name begins with A-I, your focus will be "Time of Days"; J-R will be "Number of Days"; and S-Z will be "Calendar Arrangement." Work together to research the position and develop your 1-page argument.
