Review the Zappos.com company site, particularly the "about" section, including the following links (Core Values, Zappos Family Song, The CEO Blog) , keeping in mind the organizational models you have just studied.
- Which organizational model does Zappos most fit? Give citations from the organization model sections and explain your reasons using examples from the Zappos materials.
Main Organizational models:
1. The traditional model: characterized by specific organizational structure, clear division of labor, formal chain of command. E.g U.S governmental agencies and some educational systems
2. The human relations model: characterized by the belief that employees in relaxed, congenial settings with supportive supervisors are more productive and peer relations significantly influence productivity. E.g Southwest Airlines.
3. The human resource model: characterized by the belief that managers should allow employees to participate in routine and important decisions and that employees have untapped talent that mangers should cultivate and encourage. E.g The Home Depot.
4. The system/contingency model: characterized by the belief that the organization as a system is foremost; all communication and feedback is considered; one person can affect an entire organization. Leaders and employees should adjust styles to variable situations. E.g Disney.
5. The transformational model: characterized by charismatic leaders making unprecedented changes, for example, Steve Jobs or Martin Luther King, Jr.
