As you do, consider how the question reflects the Kottak text as well as the connections this question has to the rest of the chapter, and include specific references to the text or other scholarly sources, such as ethnographies, about a living culture.
Question 1: What are some typical characteristics of body language in your society? What kind of language characteristics do they have? Do they have a focal vocabulary? Does their language cause them to think differently about the world? Does language differ between people of different genders, social classes, ages, or ethnicities?
Question 2: Is this a multi-ethnic society and, if so, how do people interpret race and ethnicity? How do the people of this society treat the subject of gender? Are the categories rigid or flexible? Are there rights/privileges associated with a particular gender but not with other genders?
