Instructions: This exam is proctored. You are to write a 500-750 word argumentative/persuasive essay on ONE of the following topics. You may use your dictionary, your thesaurus, your Handbook for Writers, and your Longman Reader. You may not use any notes. You have two hours to write. Please use the space provided to write your response. Circle the topic of your choice.
1. Should violent images and language be censored or banned from national media? Take a stand either for or against this censorship, focusing on one type of contemporary media (television, video games, music interne, literature, etc.) using specific examples to support your case.
2. If you had the option to either work part-time and go to school or not work at all and go to school, which would you choose? In an essay to be published in the CTC newspaper and read by faculty and students, take a position on whether it is better to work or not work part-time while going to school and present several reasons and examples to support your claims.
3. Write an argumentative essay in which you clearly state your position on whether public schools should have a dress code or not. Your audience is a group of local school board members and parents who must make a decision on this matter and have not yet made up their minds.
