casimir effect casimira quantum mechanical effect

Casimir effect (Casimir)

A quantum mechanical effect, where two extremely large plates placed near to each other will experience an attractive force, in the absence of any other forces. The reason is virtual particle-antiparticle pair creation within the vicinity of the plates. Also, the speed of light will be enhanced in the region among the two plates, into the direction perpendicular to them.
