Case-convicted felon dies before sentencing

Question: I feel that we have to address the death, and its irony, of Kenneth Lay. Typically when a convicted felon dies before sentencing the crimes are set aside and he/she dies a "free" person, but what about all that money? Do people have the right to sue Lay's estate or should his family be allowed to keep the money? He borrowed over 70 million dollars from Enron that is still unaccounted for. Where is that money?
