Carefully review the scenario about the national

Assignment 1: Identifying & Prioritizing Publics

Part 1

Carefully review the scenario about the National Association of Trauma Specialists (NATS).

Make a list of all the possible publics related to the scenario. Be as detailed as possible.

Please remember your textbook's rule: Know your public(s). It is impossible to make the list too detailed.

Then group the publics by type, such as government, which should be further divided into local, state and national. Having done that, now separate these publics into internal and external.

Part 2

Study your list of publics.

Which of these publics is most important to the organization? Least important? Why?

Tables 1.2 and 1.3 found in Chapter 1 of Public Relations Writing: Form & Style (9th edition) will help you derive answers systematically.
Rank order the list so that the most important public is to be listed first; second most important is listed second, and so on.

Write a brief but detailed report (about 250 words) that explains why you listed these publics in that order.

Part 3

Refer to the public you listed as the most important in Part 2.

Think about the people who make up that public.

What holds them together as a group? What are they like as individuals? What do they do for a living?

How do they spend their free time? What issues are important to them? Feel free to add your own questions.

Write a summary memo (300-500 words) of your conclusions about this public to Ms. Kari M. Backe, account services supervisor at ProCom.

This is an important memo because the account team will review it later when the team prepares to write assignments for a client.
