Carbon tetrachloride at 20degc is pumped from a tank opened

Carbon tetrachloride at 20°C is pumped from a tank opened to the atmosphere through 200 m of 50-mm-diameter smooth horizontal pipe and discharges into the atmosphere at a velocity of 3 m/s. The elevation of liquid in the tank is 3 m above the pipe. A pump is situated at the pipe inlet immediately downstream of the reservoir.

(a) Determine the speed and size of a pump to meet the system demand.

(b) What is the available net positive suction head at the pump inlet? Neglect losses in the short suction pipe connecting the pump to the tank. Assume that the atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa.

(c) Sketch the hydraulic grade line for the system.
