Can brain bleeds cause profound deafness

Scenario:

I'll try to make this brief...my twins were born at 25 wks, my son 1 lb 4 oz (20 yrs ago) had prolonged ventilation on hi jet vent 100% o2 for weeks and many more on reg vent, bowel resect, sepsis, bilatt subepend hemorrhages among other things. He has total rt ear deafness ( tho told not from prolonged oxygen use...that causes bilat hearing loss;? ) Anyway finally home on oxygen after 5 mos and stayed on it about 6 mos. A later MRI brain showed PVL but no motor impairment. He did however struggle all thru school understanding language/grammer. His neuro ( seen only few times) said prob due to PVL but we were to be grateful no CP. So heres my concern; starting college he must again be tortured with english! Can PVL have this type of long term impairment? Made the school keep him out of spanish...if he doesn't "get it" in english...no chance he'll get it in spanish, took sign language instead.

Can brain bleeds cause profound deafness? I'm worried a obout not being able to pass english in college and what that might mean.
