Problem
Pericarditis is inflammation, swelling, and irritation of the pericardium. The pericardium is the thin double-layered tissue that surrounds the heart (Dababneh & Siddique, 2022). Viruses as well as bacterium are infectious causes while non-infective causes include connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis as well as malignant cancer (Dababneh & Siddique, 2022). Trauma and even multiple types of medications have been linked to the cause this inflammation. Since certain viral infections such as HIV and Herpes viruses, and bacterial infections, such as tuberculosis, can be a causation to this inflammation, these are modifiable factors that one can protect themselves from. One can also have a healthy lifestyle such as not smoking and staying physically active, to maintain a strong immune system to help possible prevention of this disorder. Non-modifiable factors include gender, malignant cancer, and autoimmune disorders.
