Calculate the shear force and its normal force at the shear

In an orthogonal cutting operation, the chip velocity was determined using a Laser Doppler Velocimeter (LDV) as 80 % of the cutting speed. A tool of zero degree rake angle was employed in the cutting process. The normal to the friction force at the rake face of the tool was determined using a resistance strain gauge to be 300 lbs. The friction force at the shear zone was again determined using a strain gauge to be 150 lbs. Determine the shear angle. Calculate the horizontal and vertical forces. Calculate the shear force and its normal force at the shear zone. Determine the power consumed in friction and that consumed in shear. Cutting speed was 250 fpm.
