1. Calculate the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and range for the following sets of measurements:

a. 9, 7, 6, 6, 2 6-6-6-1.939-7

b. 12, 10, 9, 8, 6-9-9-nm-2-6

c. 82, 82, 82, 82, 82-82-82-0-0

d. 12, 10, 9, 8, 6, 45-15-9.5-nm-13.540-39

2. Answer the following questions

a. Why is the SD in (d) so large compared to the SD in (b)?

SD in (d) is so large compared to the SD in (b) because of the value 45.The SD of numbers in (b) was 9,now we are adding a number which is very far from mean in (b)[Mean in (b) =9] so SD in (d) becomes very large for the new dataset.

b. Why is the mean so much higher in (d) than in (b)?

Mean is so much higher in (d) than in (b) because of the value 45.The original dataset had small values resulting in mean =9,now after adding a big number 45,the sum becomes large and as a result mean is so much higher in (d) as compared to (b).

c. Why is the median relatively unaffected?
