Calculate the maximum weight of the heavy machine that can

Assignment: Reinforced Concrete Slab Analysis and Design

The drawing attached shows the details of a car park ramp, built with reinforced concrete slab which is continuous over supports in the longitudinal direction. The car park ramp is designed for carrying standard size cars. There is a requirement to take a heavy machine up the ramp for the purposes of carrying out some repair upstairs. The heavy machine satisfies the height restrictions. The machine load is sufficiently distributed on several wheels to be considered as a uniformly distributed load.

During the transport of the heavy machine, it can be ensured that there will be no other loads in addition to the heavy machine except for the self-weight of the slab. The load factors for the dead load (self-weight) and live load (heavy machine) should be applied. Calculate the maximum weight of the heavy machine that can be rolled along the ramp upstairs:

(a) Using Yield Line analysis; and

(b) Using strip method

(c) Using the coefficients provided in Clause 6.10.3 in AS3600 (2009).

The ramp is at a slope of 30o. The length of ramp along the slope is 5 m. Density of concrete = 2400 kg/m3 The calculations showing detailed workings should be neatly written.
