Assignment task:

"Gunner" is a 56 lb. 3 year old MI hunting dog.  He is presented today after accidentally being shot by his owner this morning while hunting. The owner has his chest wrapped in a blood soaked towel and his friend is applying pressure as you direct them to the exam room.

The following day Gunner's has a complete blood count and chemistry panel run.  His PVC is 15%.  His mucous membranes remain pale pink.  He is still receiving maintenance LRS.

A. The veterinarian requests you calculate the amount of pRBC that will be required to raise his PCV to 20%.

B. The pRBC are too thick to administer without further dilution.  What will   you dilute them with?

Normal saline

C. How much of this will you add to the pRBC's you are administering to him?

D. Calculate the flow rate for the blood.
