Answer the Following Question

A reheat/regenerative power plant produces 500 MW. The steam enters the HP turbine at 120 bar, 500°C and expands to 30 bar. The steam is reheattto 500°C before expanding in the IP turbine to 2 bar Some of the steam is fed to the heater at ar and the balance expands in the LP turbine to 0.05 bar. The heater has a TTD of - 5 K and its drain is pumped forward. The HP, IP and LP turbines have isentropic efficiencies of 90%, 88% and 86%, respectively.

The isentropic efficiency of each of the condensate and drip pumps is 78%.

Sketch the plant layout and plot the cycle on T - s diagram and calculate:

(a) The cycle thermal efficiency

(b) The boiler steam capacity, t/h

(c) The boiler thermal load, MWt

(d) The condenser cooling water, m3/h, for a 7 K temperature rise

(e) The cycle work ratio
