• The criminal justice system is a human enterprise and discretion is present in all components of the CJS. What is discretion? Discuss how each component of the CJS uses discretion. Be sure to provide examples that clearly illustrate the use of discretion for each component.
• In 2022, the city of Pawnee (population: 675,500) had 26 aggravated assaults. In the same year, the city of Stars Hollow (population: 267,100) had 12 aggravated assaults. Calculate the crime rate for each city (show your work). In which city are you most at risk of being assaulted?
