Problem: For each of the following resident individual taxpayers, calculate the amount that they would be entitled to claim under either s.US-6Oor s.25-65 as a deduction for election expenses for the 2O2J/22 tax year:

(a) Matthew incurred expenses totalling $6,800 in seeking election to the NSW Legislative Council representing the 'No More Footpaths Party'. Included in his expenditure was $2,OOO in dinners with local business owners. He was not elected.

(b) Tony incurred expenses totalling $24,000 in seeking election to the Victoria Legislative Assembly representing the 'Inverted Flag Party'. Included in this amount was $6,000 in bribes to public officials. He was duly elected and was reimbursed $13,000 of his campaign expenditure.

(c) Danny incurred expenses totalling$7,600 in seeking election to the Shady Bay Council. He was not elected and did not recover any of his costs.
