Calculate the acceleration of the elevator

a. An elevator at rest begins to move upward with a constant acceleration. After 2 seconds it has a velocity of 5 m/s. Calculate the acceleration of the elevator.

b. Is the force exerted by the cable pulling the elevator upward larger, the same, or smaller than the force exerted on the cable by the elevator. Explain.

c. If the elevator has a mass of 500 kg, calculate the tension in the cable while the elevator is accelerating upward.
