Peer Post:

To help build resilience in children that have been traumatized, the teacher needs to provide a calm, safe learning environment. There should be quiet areas, routine, visual reminders, teaching breathing and relaxation techniques. Providing self-talk and parallel talk to help with understanding what is going on around them, but the most important part of the experience should be a strong, loving, safe adult relationship.

Social/Emotional: Adding a quiet area to the classroom will give a child with strong emotions a place to be alone and to calm themselves.

Cognitive: Helping a child learn how to plan. If they want to play in the block area, help them to plan what they want to build.

Language/Literacy: Have a daily book reading on how to handle big feelings and encourage the children to interact with the reading. It is also helpful to talk about how we feel, it will help the children to find words to describe how they are feeling.

Physical/Motor: Have activities to help the children that need it to get their energy out. Outside play with organized games that involve running, throwing and following directions.
