A. Human rights organization:
Profile a major organization that works to defend human rights. It can be an NGO like Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch, a grassroots movement like Brazil's Landless Workers Movement, or an international institution like the European Court of Human Rights or the UNCHR. It cannot be a state agency. For each organization, briefly describe the methods they use, the main issues they cover, recent examples of success and failure, and critiques of their work.
B. Country report: Report on a country whose human rights policies have been criticized recently. Briefly describe the violations they are accused of; their official statements in response; recent examples of improvement or decline; and actions taken domestically or internationally to pressure them to change. Evaluate whether the critiques of their policies are valid. Some options include China, Burma, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Israel, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Congo, etc. You cannot report on the United States except with prior approval.
