Brief overview of law itself-what are its main components

Discussion:

Directions Extra Credit Project

The USA Patriot Act was passed in 2001 as response to the terrorists attack on the United States. The law gives the US federal government broad powers in monitoring both US citizens and non US citizens who may want to harm the United States. While some argue it is necessary to protect the US homeland from terrorist threats, others argue that it has gone too far in restricting personal liberties and freedom.

After doing some research on the USA Patriot Act, answer the following questions:

1. Brief overview of the law itself. What are its main components?

2. What are its pros and cons?

3. Do you believe that the USA Patriot Act is still necessary in order to protect the United States?

4. If you were a United States Congress member, would you vote to extend the Patriot Act, repeal it, or amend it? Give support for your answer.

While this is not a research paper in the sense that you have to cite sources, you will have to do some research to answer these questions. While there is no particular format for this paper, you must use correct spelling, good grammar and proper sentence structure.

Your paper should be approximately 1,000 words (this is about 3 double spaced pages).
