CASE ANALYSIS GUIDELINES-

Case analyses should address the following issues (in this order):

-Identify the most important problem(s) faced by the protagonist (main character) in the case. A problem is generally defined as a gap between what the protagonist wants in the current situation and what he/she is experiencing (i.e., reality). There may be more than one key problem, such as an immediate or short-term problem and a longer-term problem. If so, it is your job to identify each facet of the problem as such.

-Identify the causes of the problem using the content/models/theories offered in current and past readings, course lectures, class discussions, or other course material. Keep in mind that causes lead to problems, and can exist at multiple levels. For example, causes  can exist at the individual level (ex. low motivation), the group/team level (ex. dysfunctional group dynamics), or at the organizational level (ex. organizational culture or structure). Problems tend to disappear when the causes are eliminated.

-Identify and evaluate possible solutions to the problem. For each case, you should identify at least two (and potentially more) alternative solutions to the problem. The alternative solutions should closely align with the causes of the problem, and should also be based upon current and past readings, course lectures, class discussions, or other course material. Your discussion should also include the pros and cons of each alternative solution.

-Recommend and justify a specific solution. The recommended solution should flow directly from the previous sections of your analysis in that it aligns with the stated problem, the causes, and possible alternative solutions (i.e., no surprise endings). Recommended solutions should provide clear reasons for why this particular solution is preferable to other alternatives. In addition, you should provide an outline of the plan or steps necessary to implement the recommended solution, including any needed resources or support.
