  • Be able to identify the clinical manifestations of pregnancy.
  • Gain knowledge of the tests a pregnant woman may be required to undertake
  • Reinforcement of the importance of the placenta barrier and how if the mother is exposed to tetragons it can be passed to the unborn child
  • Be aware of the dangers of smoking and pregnancy.
  • Overview of the complications that can occur during pregnancy
  • Define what monozygotic is
  • Define what dizygotic is
  • Discuss the four ways pregnancy terminations can occur
  • Identify the causes for birth defects
  • Be able to discuss the three stages of birthing
  • Identify the non pharmalogical interventions that can assist in labour and delivery.
  • Define what nitrous oxide and narcotic analgesia are and used for.
  • Identify what an epidural is and how it works.
  • Gain awareness of the third stage of labour.
  • Define involution and lochia.
  • Gain awareness of post partum haemorrhage and the drugs used to stop this from occurring
  • Identify the delivery interventions used from an induction, forceps to c sections.
  • Gain knowledge around AGPAR assessments.
