Book review: the lexus and the olive tree
Your book review should be 3-5 pages in length and should be typed, double-spaced.
Things to remember when writing a book review:
1. You are not writing a book report. You must be far more in-depth in a book review. You are not simply summarizing the book; you are also commenting on the book and offering your own opinions. You must cite directly from the book to support your points.
Questions to keep in mind as you read:
1. What is the point of the book according to the author? Is this made clear? What is the main theme of the book?
2. What is the significance of the title of the book? What is the conflict of “the lexus and the olive tree?”
3. Do you agree or disagree with the author’s view?
4. What did you find positive and/ or negative about the book? Were there particular things that the author said that you liked or disliked? Give specific examples.
5. What was your overall opinion of the book? Does the author succeed in making his point?
