I have several questions.
1) What does Foner signify by "The Birth of Civil Liberties" in his book? For whom and in what context? I am looking for particular cases, such as the Palmer Raids.
2) Describe the parallels to the present in terms of civil liberties and crackdowns post 9/11? Where are they and are they constitutionally justified according to any of the Foner parallels?
3) In an illustration from the not so distant past, explain how does this play out with debates over the flag burning amendment which failed in the Senate by one vote in year 2006?
