Better understanding of databases and their uses

1)Now that you have a better understanding of databases and their uses, lets expand our discussion to a DBMS. A DataBase Management System (DBMS) is typically used in mid to large size organization. Maybe not as common in smaller companies because of the cost associated with it. How does a DBMS function and why would we use one? What are the benefits?
2)Let's continue comparing all the characteristics, how about database connectivity. Does one product provide better connectivity than others. For example, is it easier to share your data using access versus another product or are they all using the same standards?

3)What if you were the new HR Director for Widget Inc, a manufacturing company with branches in several states. It is a medium sized business with 800 employees and a positive bottom line. You notice that the HR staff working for you seem isolated from the rest of the operations and have adopted an "us against them" attitude. You believe this is the reason for the poor opinion of HR in your organization? How would you tackle this problem?
How about the maintenance function of HRM and it's relationship to employees.

4)Share with us your thoughts on how the maintenance function should be handled. What are some best practices that you would put in place to ensure that the maintenance function is handled appropriately?
