Beneficial perspective planning-decision making

Assignment:

Discussion 1

Discuss: The most beneficial perspective you obtained from this chapter on planning and decision making and why?

Discussion 2

Your facility has merged with another, and as a department manager you must travel between two locations several miles apart. Not all management positions at both facilities were subject to combination, so although the staff at the two locations have you as their single manager, you have two bosses, one at each facility. To complicate matters, your bosses behave as though they are each the "biggest boss" each with priority in demanding your attention and responsiveness. How are you going to handle your situation?

Case Assignment 1

Question 1. What are the weaknesses, if any, in Carrie's final statement about decision-making responsibility?

Question 2. Given the state of affairs Carrie is facing as of her conversation with the vice president, how should she go about attempting to salvage some of her ideas and proceed with the improvement of the department? Keep in mind that at this stage her actions have probably had serious effects on her chances of implementing her plans, and some of the decisions she may have already made may have to be revisited in different fashion.
