As stated below, the purpose of a code of ethics is to "...set clear expectations and principles to guide practice and inspire excellence."
It's interesting because I have been teaching in New York for many years and before teaching this course, I was unaware of the code of ethics. I was just plodding along life using my own personal code of ethics, based on my values and morals. The reason why professionals need a code of ethics is because some people base their choices and decisions on unethical behavior. Organizations need to be sure that their employees know the guidelines so that they can adhere to them.
