Before the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) one of the benefits of a group health program was that the employer group spread the risk and coverage was more readily available in a group plan than on an individual basis. The PPACA (Obamacare) prevents insurance companies from imposing pre-existing limitation restrictions on subscribers. Since that restriction has been lifted what are the benefits to employees and employeers of providing (and employer paying for) health insurance benefits?
