The assignment involves looking at the archives of the Daily Titan (your student newspaper) and pick one article from the 1960s and 1970s (if you can find some related articles from the 1980s that would be acceptable) related to the topics that will be addressed in class. The topics range from ethnic Studies, Students organizing, Black protest, Anti-Vietnam rallies, Chicanos, Asian American activism, Cesar Chavez, etc.

2. Of what does the news consist? Why might it have been of interest? Where in the paper does this item appear—how, if at all, does it relate to the other articles around it? Why did you choose the article? How does the article deal with the topics related to class? How does the article relate to the readings that you choose? Finally, you may want to pay attention to the different ways in which the same “news” is reported.
