Azoles
Systemic azole antifungals currently available in the US contain fluconazole (Diflucan, and others), itraconazole (Sporanox), voriconazole (Vfend) and ketoconazole (Nizoral, and others). All act by blocking the activity of 14-alpha-demethylase, leading to inhibition of ergosterol synthesis. They vary in their spectrum of activity, bioavailability, adverse effects and potential for drug interactions.
