When it comes to counselors working with children and adolescents, there will be a lot of navigating a complex, evolving landscape of sexual development which can include physical, emotional, and cognitive changes (American Counseling Association, 2023). The counselor understands these factors as it can be crucial for differentiating normal curiosity from that concerning behavior, ensuring care, and helping to promote healthy sexual development. There are other factors that counselors can be aware of which are developmental milestones and variability, normal vs. problematic behaviors, sexual orientation and gender identity, digital and media influence, consent and health relationships, and cultural and familial values. The youth have a continuous growing mind and therefore, the counselor needs to understand what their background and values are as well to help assist them with sexual development. Every person is going to be at a different place when it comes to their sexual development as some may have more "experience" than others and that "experience" will vary as well with what that Intel's.
