Avian adenovirus infections
EDS-76, an adenovirus, has been etiologically associated with drop in egg production. Other adenoviruses affecting chicken and other birds include fowl advenovirus type 1 (CELO virus), causing an acute, fatal respiratory disease, fowl adenovirus type 2 (GAL virus) causing inapparent infection and turkey adenovirus types 1 and 2 causing turkey viral hepatitis.
These adenovirus isolates, from normal and clinically ailing chicken, have demonstrably contributed to decreased egg production and are also associated with other conditions, viz. inclusion body hepatitis, aplastic anaemia, haemorrhages and mild respiratory disease.
